Color Study

                                      Color Study

What is Color ?

Color is a microconsciousness. Color help us to understand the world around us. Color is the visual perceptual property corresponding in humans to the categories. It is the aspect of things caused by different qualities of light. Just how we look at a scene, our visual nerves register color in terms of the attributes of color.
Color is an non-verbal communication. Color can influence our  emotions, our action and how we respond to various people, things or ideas. Color also studied will impact our daily lives. Each color have their own meanings.
Too see color , we should have light. Our eyes only see the colors bounce off or reflected.
Different colors have different wavelengths. For example, the longest wavelength of light human can see is red, the shortest is violet.

History of Color

The first person who split white light into spectral colors with a prism was Italian priest , Francesco Maria Grimaldi.
Isaac Newton introduced the term color spectrum in his '' New Theory about Light and Colors''. He was the first to understand the rainbow.  He started his experiments on his '' Phenomenon of Colors''. He discovered colors are in the light. The light people see as white is the mixture of all colors. Isaac Newton was the first who invented Color Wheel.
After the century of Newton,  Johann Wolfgang Goethe began studying psychological effects of colors. He noticed the feelings of colors and effects. For example, blue gives a feeling of coolness and yellow as warming effects.

Color Theory

Color theory is about how color works. It is a guidance to color mixing and the visual effects of a specific color combination. There are also definitions of colors based on the color wheel: primary color, secondary color and tertiary color.

There are three basic color theory that are logical and useful :The color wheel, color harmony, and the context of how colors are used. If color theory is simplified, it can be broken down into 3 parts - The color wheel, color value, and color schemes. Each part of color theory builds on the previous.
Color theories create a logical structure for color. For example, if we have an assortment of fruits and vegetables, we can organize them by color and place them on a circle that shows the colors in relation to each other.
These are the list of Color Theory :
§  Primary color, Secondary color, Tertiary color & Color Wheel
§  Warm color & Cool color
§  Achromatic color & Monochromatic color
§  Tints, Tones & Shades
§  Color Harmony

Color Properties

Color Wheel
Color Wheel is a circle with different colored sectors used to show the relationship between colors. Their colors are arranged according to their chromatic relationship.
It positioned primary hues equally with each other. Secondary colors and tertiary colors are produced along the combination of primary color.

Primary Color

Primary Color are the three common colors from Color Wheel. Thus Blue, Red and Yellow. Primary Colors are a set of colors that can be mixed or combined to produce other range of useful colors. They mixed each other to produce Secondary Color and Tertiary Color.

Secondary Color

We get Secondary Color by mixing two primary color with equal proportions.
§                                                                            Red + Blue = Violet
§                                                                            Blue + Yellow = Green
§                                                                           Yellow + Red = Orange

Tertiary Color

Tertiary Color is produced when we mixed either one of Primary Color with Secondary Color equally. And then produce a name by combine the color
For example, we get Red Violet by combine Red and Violet.

                                            Color Harmonious
To express feeling of cold or remoteness.
Represents a satisfying balance or unity of colors.
Combinations of color that exist in harmony that are pleasing to eye.

Triad
Triad colors are three colors that equally spaced from one another, It can be seen by creating an equilateral triangle on the color wheel.

Tetrad
Tetrad color scheme uses four colors arranged into two complementary pairs. It is a combinations made up of four hues equal distance from one another, forming a square or rectangle on the color wheel.

Analogous
Analogous colors are any three colors which are side by side on a 12 part color wheel, such as yellow-green, yellow, and yellow-orange. Usually one of the three colors predominates. They are next to each other on the color wheel.

Split Complementary

The split-complementary color scheme is a variation of the complementary color scheme. This color scheme has the same strong visual contrast as the complementary color scheme, but has less tension.

Complementary
Complementary colors are colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel. The high contrast of complementary colors creates a vibrant look.

Week 4
Achromatic Color

I divided it into 9 tones when produce Achromatic Colors. I color it start with white color and mix with black colors by increase the percentage of black color.

Monochromatic Color
Monochromatic color are derived from a single base hue and extended using its shades, tones and tints.

Tints are achieved by adding white to a single hue color

Task 2
Based on Monochromatic Color

                      Color Temperature

Colors can fall into one of two groups, warm or cool colors.

A warm color , red , yellow, orange is one that gives the viewer a sense of warmth, energy, or heat, such as fire, sunset.

A cool color , blue ,green, purple is a color that gives a sense of coolness, cold, or stillness, such as clear blue sky, forest.

Final Project
Self-Personality painting

Rationale

In my final project, i drew a man and an eagle as my main concept and theme which i believe can bring out my identity through color combination. I applied primary color and neutral color on my final project. i used Red, Blue, Yellow, mixed them in order to get other Secondary Color to made my Final Project more attractive.

Start from the men, i drew him posing by references because i am a person who always brainstorming and try to think. The men in the project is always think about ideas and innovation. His hair is colored with blue. Blue represents calm and quiet. To think for new ideas, i always need to be concentrate and think in a quiet environment. The green color at the men means freshness and relaxtion. I don't like to stay in a stress environment. The red color represent danger, i applied it less because i seldom get angry. The men t-shirt are colored with black and blue. At here blue represent reliable and trustable. Black represent independent and strong-willed. Those color are came from back. It means i am about to learn to be an independent and reliable person.

For the eagle, i colored it with purple, blue and yellow. Eagle are the symbolism of freedom and victory. I am a person who prefer freedom and victory. At here, yellow means caution. I always be careful and think twice when do something. The blue represent tranquillity. I mixed yellow for cheerfulness. It became green, means relax. I mixed both color on the wing because i am a person always enjoy in a relaxation environment.

For the background, red and purple represent passion. I always try to be passionate in learning. Yellow represent warmth. I enjoy to be in a warmth environment. Green means hope, I want my life is always hopeful. Blue means quiet. I dislike noise.
